Real-world project

Empowering scholars with easy access to relevant research

At Allen Institute for AI, I lead user research efforts end to end, manage the backlog of research initiatives, plan and execute UX research activities to help develop a deep understanding of scholar workflows and motivations for Semantic Scholar.

Semantic Scholar is a free, AI-powered research tool for scientific literature based at the Allen Institute for AI. Since its launch in November 2015, Semantic Scholar has indexed and learned from over 170 million research papers in thousands of journals and conferences.

Working closely with product managers, designers and researchers, my main responsibilities involve — Identify research opportunities, design research plans, define recruitment strategies, conduct moderated and unmoderated studies, and communicate insightful findings and actionable recommendations to the team in written and oral forms.

I have been working on a number of projects to help scholars stay up to date with and discover new research that is most relevant to them, and improving the scientific literature reading experience for researchers who are blind or visually impaired. I am still putting together a case study here — More to follow!
